The George A. Kanna Scholarship Foundation announces the
availability of a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving Kauai High School graduate
pursuing higher education at an accredited institution.
The George A. Kanna Scholarship Foundation was chartered as a
non-profit charitable corporation in 2003.
Its primary objective is to provide aid to deserving students in
furthering their education.
The foundation was founded to commemorate the work and
dedication of George A. Kanna, DDS. Dr.
George Kanna, a pioneer in the dental profession in Hawaii, was one of the
founders of Hawaii Dental Service, which made access to quality dental care to
all of Hawaii’s people a reality. His
commitment to the community was evidenced through his involvement in numerous
organizations and boards, including the State Board of Education, the State
Board of Dental Examiners, West Kauai Jaycees, West Kauai Lions and many
others. Education, however, was always
at the heart of his philosophy, as he believed that it is the “key to opening
doors”, and an achievement that no one can take from you. It is with these firm beliefs and dedication
to the young people of our community that these scholarships are presented.
